The most productive day in history.

About a week ago, a strange thing happened, and I had the most productive printing day in the history of printing days. It was magical. These are all available in my Etsy shop and will also be available May 12th and May 13th at Art Star Craft Bazaar. My first outdoor craft fair! Yikes! Looking forward to it, hope to see you there.

It looks like it's going to be a busy next couple months, but I'm determined to remember to get outside and enjoy the spring. So this weekend I will be taking a little break and going to Delaware. It's a Delavacation. Not really. I'm going to go to the thrift store and the park and hang out with my folks. Maybe look for buttons

Books

One of my new year's resolutions to myself is to consistently, steadily, make books all year round. To not wait for an order or a craft fair, to just make them and put them out there. So here is what is available right now, these are all handmade and one of a kind with a unique mix of papers.

New on Sale

The Huldra Press Etsy store is now updated with new books and prints. Here is a selection of some of things you'll find there.

Thanks for reading, hope you find something you like.

Field Books

I made a small series of one of a kind, letterpress printed "field books" this month. I've wanted to do this for a long time, ever since I bought an old copper printing block of graph paper.

This allowed me to print my own graph paper in whatever color I choose.

I made softcover and hardcover versions. The softcover has a pocket in the back for storing notes, feathers, postcards, and whatever else you might find while out in the field.

Many pages also have random ornaments like the one below, also letterpress printed.

If you're interested in purchasing one, I have a couple of the hardcovers left. They are 60.00 a piece. Contact me and I can send you images. I'll be making two, one softcover and hardcover, with pink graph paper soon too.

Me, you, and a whole lot of avocado green

Guess what! I've been looking at seventies kitchens. I'm working on opening an Etsy vintage store, and all those earth tones are starting to influence me.

I go to the thrift store a lot and am often drawn to items, especially kitchen ones, from this era. And I'm drawn to the objects that you can't tell right away if they're hideous or beautiful.

I think my grandmother had that same double oven. I just ordered a book from Taschen all about advertising in the 70s, which I also love.

A Resolution

This year, inspired by my very organized and talented friend, Amy Tavern, I made the resolution that I would start keeping meticulous record of all my expenses (and profits) related to letterpress and bookbinding.
To motivate myself, I shopped on Etsy today for a handmade pouch to keep receipts. I love vintage fabrics, especially wools and plaids, and found these lovely examples of using recycled wools.

I went with the last one, although I covet them all.

But what I really covet? A lot? Is one of these.

Katie Henry, from Philly, makes these beautiful one of a kind purses, and if you're real lucky, you'll snag one from her madebyhank etsy shop.

I want one real bad.

That's all for now. It's snowing here, and it looks it will continue to snow through the night. I'm going to go watch V now. Good times.

Brought to You by the letter "F"

The F mug.

It's a shame that the letter F has some bad connotations, because it's a lovely letter. It's my favorite letter to write in cursive. It's fun to say in words like filigree and fennel and. In letterpress, you get to use ligatures with it. Fascinating.

I've been reading Elementary Platen Presswork by those Polk boys and the picture below says it all. Finally, a readable, informative, basic guide to platen presses. Without fear mongering.

isn't that beautiful?

And lastly friends, for whom I wrote this book. Inspired by taking a walk in the woods, "For You" is a small edition, letterpress book handprinted by Huldra Press. The text is set in Gill Sans and the images are linoleum block cuts. Each book is signed and editioned. There are only 36 copies.

It's now available in my Etsy Shop.

New Holiday & Recipe Cards

All available at Huldra Press's Etsy Shop

Huldra Press Holiday Card : Available in Blue or Green

My first holiday themed cards. Not being a fan of Christmas colors and holly and such, it wasn't the easiest card to design. But I'm happy with how they turned out. Yes, there's red and green in there but not that red and green. It's subtle.

Gift Tags too

Everything I've been printing these last couple weeks has been using the vintage wood and metal type in the Penland shop. No photopolymer plates. I'm going to miss having access to all those unusual little ornaments and drawer after drawer of tall wood letters, so I'm taking advantage of them now.

About a month ago, the school got a donation of wood type, I loved the simple wood borders and used them for these recipe cards. They remind me of an old movie theatre marquee.

It's winter, so that means cooking, lots of it. Roast chickens, soups, scones, and of course, rosemary potatoes. This afternoon, I made oatmeal raisin cookies for my mechanic. An honest mechanic deserves cookies.
